To get into the Christmas spirit; 21x children's Christmas movies on Netflix

As a child I looked forward to the moment when the extra thick Christmas TV guide fell on the mat. “Which children's movies are airing this Christmas?” I thought, reading the TV guide from cover to cover. We now watch TV 'on demand' and are subscribed to Netflix. Do you also have Netflix at home and are you curious which Christmas movies are suitable for children? I have listed all 21 children's Christmas movies on Netflix for you.

I make a distinction here between films with subtitles for older children and children's Christmas films that are spoken in Dutch.

Table of contents

Children's Christmas movies for the whole family subtitled

These children's Christmas movies are suitable for anyone who can read subtitles. At least, that makes it a lot more fun, although we have noticed at home that these films are still appreciated even without subtitles. So snuggle up in your ugly Christmas sweater and get started.

1. Annie (2014)

Who doesn't know her:the red-haired orphaned girl Annie. In this remake, Annie has a dark complexion and a beautiful bush of curly hair. Ever since she was abandoned on the doorstep of a restaurant by her parents as a baby, she lives with other orphaned girls with alcoholic Colleen Hannigan. Every evening Annie sits on the doorstep of the restaurant, hoping for her parents to pick her up again.

Meanwhile, it is election time in the city and the new mayor is elected. Mayor Stack's campaign manager has decided that it is a great initiative in these times to look for Annie's parents. He arranges a fake couple and is in cahoots with Miss Hannigan. But eventually this deception comes true and Mayor Stack is so fond of Annie that he wants to adopt her.

2. Arthur Christmas (2011)

Arthur is Santa's youngest son and the only one in the family still fascinated by the true magic of Christmas. In this animated film we learn how Santa can deliver all those packages to everyone in one night. But of course things go wrong and one package is forgotten. Arthur sees this and does everything he can to deliver this package on time. This is of course one big adventure! Definitely one of the nicer children's Christmas movies.

3. Beethoven's Christmas Adventure (2011)

Beethoven is a friendly Saint Bernard dog who in this film takes a bag of Santa toys from a thief. This bag had fallen into Beethoven's residential area when an Elf had crashed into Santa's sleigh. Beethoven is helped by his teenage friend Mason. Together they ensure that the presents come back and that Christmas is saved.

4. Home Alone (1990)

You must have seen this Christmas classic. Kevin, an eight-year-old boy, is forgotten by his family on vacation. So Kevin is home alone. During these days, he hilariously protects the house from two stupid burglars. Perhaps one of the children's Christmas films that you can repeat every year 😉 .

5. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

The Santa Claus from Cole's department store turns out to like a drink and is fired because of it. One has to look for a replacement at short notice and finds it in Kris Kringle, the old man who reminds the drunken Santa of his responsibility on the street.

All the children begin to believe that Kris is the real Santa, except for six-year-old Susan. Meanwhile, this Santa ensures a good turnover at the department store, which is not appreciated by the competitor. An assault is staged, forcing Kris to appear in court. Susan's stepfather Bryan is Santa's lawyer and must prove his innocence by proving that Kris is the real Santa. If this works, Susan is also convinced. If it doesn't work, what will happen at Christmas?

6. The Muppet Christmas Carrol (1992)

In this children's Christmas movie, the story of Charles Dickens is played by the Muppets. The miser Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the ghosts of the past, present and future to show him that he lives only materialistic and there is more to the world than money and things. Friendship and giving, that's what it's about. In the end, Scrooge turns into a gentle man who helps his fellow townspeople have a merry Christmas.

7. The Santa Clause part 1, 2 and 3

Santa Claus is killed on Scott's roof. To save Christmas, Scott puts on the Santa suit and goes in the sleigh with his son Charlie to deliver presents. After all the presents have been delivered, they arrive at the North Pole. There they hear that Scott is now the new Santa Claus. Scott is getting used to his career move, but Charlie is thrilled that his father is now Santa Claus. He is even getting fatter and getting a beard!

From animation to feature film, all these children's Christmas films are Dutch spoken or dubbed. Have fun for the kids! Do you want to make it extra fun? Then make this delicious popcorn for the couch!

8. Bob's broken sleigh (2015)

Bob is an enthusiastic Elf who improves Santa's sleigh. During a ride he crashes far from home. Three orphans help him get back home. This film only lasts 45 minutes, which can sometimes be nicer than endless children's Christmas films. Nice for in between!

9. Casper's Scary Christmas (2000)

Casper the ghost has to scare one more person before Christmas. If he doesn't, the king of ghosts will punish him.

10. The Magic Crystal (2013)

Santa Claus has a magic crystal that allows him to multiply himself. This allows him to easily deliver all the presents to the children. Basil, the evil twin brother of Santa Claus, steals the crystal in this animated film in order to control the children. The orphaned boy Yothan does everything he can to get the crystal back. This exciting adventure in this children's Christmas film naturally ends well.

11. How the Grinch stole Christmas (2000)

Jim Carrey plays the Grinch:a grumpy, green Who who has separated himself from the other Whos and settled in a mountain outside the village. The Grinch hates Christmas, while the Whos love Christmas. Then there's a little girl, Cindy, who nominates the Grinch for the village's Christmas master of ceremonies. The Grinch wants to spoil Christmas, so is this such a good idea?

This film was experienced as 'scary' by my youngest two (6 and 8 years old). Jim Carrey looked too terrifying for them. Eldest Son (10) liked it and let's face it, this children's Christmas movie is also fun for adults!

12. Christmas Stories from Mickey and Friends (1999)

Mickey Mouse is always a party! In these children's Christmas movies, three Christmas stories are told by Mickey and his friends. Enjoying this cheerful children's Christmas movie carefree on the couch!

13. Mickey's Christmas Magic:Snowed In at Mickey's Club (2001)

Mickey and his friends get snowed in at Mickey's house. Donald has lost the Christmas spirit a bit, but the stories and memories of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Belle and Snow White will get everyone in the Christmas spirit. A cheerful Disney film as we are used to from Disney.

14. Niko and the Flying Brigade (2008)

Niko is a reindeer who lives with his mother with a herd of reindeer. His father is never there, because he works in the 'flying brigade'. In the flying brigade, reindeer work with a special gift. They can fly and help Santa pull through the sleigh. Together with his friends Julius (a flying squirrel) and Wilma (a marten), Niko goes in search of his father. Meanwhile, a starving wolf pack is on its way to Santa's Mountain. Niko and his friends stop the wolves from eating Santa and find his father, Prancer.

15. Niko 2 (2012)

Niko would like his parents to get back together, but they don't feel like this themselves. Niko's mother falls in love with a goofy reindeer, Lenni, who also has a son (Jonni) of his own. Niko doesn't like it at all. These reindeer can't even fly like his father and Niko can. Then Jonni is kidnapped and Niko sets out with his friends Julius and Wilma to find Jonni. They are helped by the very old and deaf reindeer Tomas, who turns out to be the former leader of the flying brigade. Talk about fun children's Christmas movies!

16. Santa Buddies (2009)

Puppy Paws is the son of Santa Paws, Santa's dog. Puppy Paws is tired of life in the North Pole and wants to be a regular dog. He decides to look for dogs that can teach him that. The Buddies (Budderball, B-Dawg, Rosebud, Buddha, and Mudbud) help him remember that Christmas isn't about what you get, it's about what you give. A merry Christmas story and one of Netflix's Christmas favourites  when it comes to children's Christmas movies in our home!

17. Santa Pac's Merry Berry Day (2016)

For Pac, Merry Berry Day is the best day of the year. He wants it to stay that way and thwarts the evil Betrayus' plan to replace Santa Pac. This short film (45 min) is fine for a short break, but it is not a Christmas cracker.

18. Santa Paws 2:the Santa Pups (2012)

Another fun children's Christmas movie with super cute puppies! This time there are four puppies who live with Santa and Mrs. When Santa travels to Pineville in the sleigh, the puppies secretly hide in the sleigh. In Pineville, the puppies fulfill the wishes of many children. But then they notice that the Christmas spirit is fading. Santa Claus and the puppies do everything they can to bring back the Christmas spirit. One of the heartwarming children's Christmas movies that my three children have enjoyed.

19. The Nightmare before Christmas (1993)

This movie, co-created by Tim Burton, is about pumpkin king Jack Skeleton. He lives in the world of Halloween and one day ends up in Christmas Town. There he is so impressed by the Christmas spirit that he persuades his fellow villagers to abolish Halloween and take over Christmas. A special animation film, but a bit too special for us.

20. The Polar Express (2004)

On Christmas Eve, a boy lies in bed and hears an unbelievable noise. A special train appears to stop next to his house. The conductor asks if he is coming and the boy gets in. It turns out that there are even more children in their pajamas on the train. The train is on its way to the North Pole, where the children will meet Santa Claus. Would they be on time?

21. Timmy's Christmas Surprise (2011)

Timmie Tijd, the series about sheep Timmie, is now also part of the children's Christmas films with its own Christmas film. Timmie and his friends Harriet and Osbourne get snowed in on Christmas Eve.
