One Glass of Wine Boosts Attractiveness, New Study Reveals

Want to turn heads on a first date? Science suggests a single glass of wine could enhance your appeal.

Published February 25 in Alcohol and Alcoholism, research led by Professor Marcus Munafò, a biological psychology expert at the University of Bristol, involved 40 university students. Researchers captured neutral facial photos at three stages: fully sober, after one glass of wine equivalent, and after a second drink.

These images were rated by another group of sober students, with striking results. Faces after one drink were rated significantly more attractive than sober ones. However, after two drinks, attractiveness dropped, making them the least appealing.

Why the boost from one drink? The team proposes several factors: dilated pupils signal interest, relaxed muscles convey confidence, and a subtle rosy flush suggests good health. As Munafò notes, "That obviously doesn't mean that alcohol is healthy... alcohol brings out certain aspects that we consider seductive."

Moderation is key. Enjoy responsibly.
