A survey highlighted in Le Parisien challenges common assumptions, showing French teenagers aged 15-18 are far more romantic than expected. The vast majority prioritize emotional connection over physical intimacy.
Contrary to images of hormone-driven, hyper-connected youth, these teens value love deeply. Notably, 78% report having fallen in love, and 91% insist sex isn't paramount—what truly matters is "to love and be loved in return." Three-quarters believe love and feelings should guide their first sexual experience, with 83% of both girls and boys saying they made love for love. Impressively, 80% feel they're more inventive in romance than their parents.
Parents' perceptions often miss the mark. Only 26% of teens have viewed porn, yet 50% of adults assume near-universal addiction. For sexting, 22% have participated versus 47% of parents' estimates; just 6% have shared sexy photos or videos, compared to 30% of adult beliefs.
Conducted by Ipsos for the Pfizer Foundation with 800 teens and 800 adults, this survey aims to inform targeted health and sexuality prevention campaigns, offering reliable insights into young minds.
Reassuring news for parents: French teens are thoughtful and feelings-focused, not the reckless stereotypes in our imaginations.
