The village quiz—a staple event that's swept through Brabant, drawing hundreds of villages into the fun. Nearly every community hosts one, including ours. A dedicated group of volunteers poured years of effort into crafting this clever challenge, backed by generous local sponsors who keep the event thriving for the whole village.

This year marks the fourth edition: “Hee doede mee”, a nod to our fellow villager Gerard van Maasakkers' song “Hee goade mee”. The invitation “Hey, join in!” is hardly needed—everyone dives in. Young and old, brainiacs and creatives alike. The village buzzes on quiz night, with sports clubs, friend groups, businesses, and neighborhoods forming teams.
We jumped in too. My first year was with the café team, alongside my best friend, tackling questions on Dutch celebs from the bar. Named after the café, our owner kept the wine flowing generously. It made for a jolly night, though questions and answers grew fuzzier as it went. The low point? We assigned the secret task—a cryptic dictation—to our dyslexic teammate. #fail. Still, it was a blast. Village quizzes like this truly bring people together.
Next year, we formed our own squad with relatives and family friends, proudly flying our family name. It wasn't our strongest showing, especially evident at the party.
Results drop during a lively party night: great band, all teams, endless beer. Prizes weave through the fun, peaking with the top 10 reveal. Landing top 3 means cash for a local charity of your choice.
With 123 teams that year, we placed 113th. Ouch—especially with our well-known name. But we're optimists. We re-entered with “All family” and climbed to 79th. Neighbors pitied us; we celebrated the progress!
The village gears up again for this epic quiz night. It's more than questions across 10 packed categories—think outdoor tasks, baking challenges, photo hunts. Prep starts early: a month ahead, team captains grabbed secret envelopes at the park kiosk on a rainy Friday. Inside? A sticker album begging to be filled, Panini-style. Grown adults traded like kids, with Facebook swaps and an exchange afternoon frenzy. Hilarious.
