5 tips for a child-friendly interior where you still create a stylish interior

Let's start by saying that there are more things that are needed to obtain a child-friendly interior. Think, for example, of protecting children's fingers against sockets. Or closing the kitchen cupboards where you have cleaning products so that they cannot be opened by your scurrying little one. All very important tips to make the interior of your house safe for small children. But this does not give you a stylish interior. And that's what this blog is about. About tips for a child-friendly interior where you can still keep the interior as you like it yourself.

A child-friendly interior but still in style is perfectly doable!

First of all, it's nice to keep things tidy. We don't need to be able to shoot perfect Instagram interior pictures in a child-friendly house, but it is nice if there is an overview. If it is clear where the children's toys are, for example. Or if all the craft supplies just have their own place. That is not only nice for yourself (you know it… a tidy house is a tidy mind and all that), but also for your child.

Clean up and capture layouts on photo

Take a picture of the tidy closet, or of the toy box that has been cleaned up. Then stick that photo on the inside of the lid of the box or on the inside of the drawer or door of the cabinet. This way your child can also see how the cupboard should be cleaned up. Especially with smaller children, this is a very handy cleaning tip for a child-friendly and stylish interior.

Choose materials in your interior that you can clean properly

Think, for example, of dining room chairs that you can easily clean. Those design bucket seats, for example. These fit completely into a modern and trendy interior and are also child-friendly because you can keep them clean. Spilling food is not a problem. And as you can see above, these dining room chairs also fit perfectly in a fresh Scandinavian interior.

Even if you look at a living room sofa, you don't necessarily have to make concessions to the appearance with a child-friendly interior. Our Bean corner sofa, for example, is made of eco leather. I find this material ideal if you have children at home. Because even though I already have an adolescent, I don't think they pay very much attention to the use of the furniture. The choice of color may also be important here. Light colors are simply more contagious than dark colors.

Do you have dining room chairs or a sofa that is quite contagious? Then use stylish fine plaids in your interior that you can also easily wash. This way you still have a cozy interior, but also an interior that is child-friendly and where you do not have to pay attention all the time.

A nice floor that is easy to maintain

Can you still make a choice in the floor? Then I have a big fat recommendation for you. Take a look at a PVC floor. We have had a PVC floor in our house for about four months and we are very happy with it! You don't see much on them and they are so very easy to clean. No other floor for me with children and pets. Ideal.

Tip:choose a high-quality PVC floor. You don't want to have a floor that is already full of scratches in a year, do you?

Nice rugs for comfort and a stylish interior; these are child-friendly

Not all rugs are equally useful if you have children, but a rug is very child-friendly and also brightens up your interior. A rug is wonderful to play on of course, but also just nice to sit on and hang against the couch in front of the TV, for example. The older children like to do that. My experience is that a woolen rug is very nice for this. Because wool is a 100% natural product, the risk of allergies is a lot smaller and this material is also dirt-repellent.

Choose safe plants in a child-friendly interior

I like plants in the house, but not every plant is equally suitable if you have pets or children. These plants are non-toxic to your pets and probably safe for children. So are you also a plant lover but do you expect a little bumblebee? Then pay close attention to which plants you place in your stylish interior. Especially if they are within reach of your children.

Do you have plants in your interior that are actually not suitable if you have smaller children? In any case, put them higher away so that you don't run any risks here.

Round shapes are safer

You will no doubt agree with me when it comes to these tips. Round shapes are safer than square corners. Fortunately, there are also solutions for that beautiful coffee table you have with those sharp corners. Consider, for example, silicone corner protectors. You can purchase them for a few cents and the child-friendliness of your interior is increasing rapidly. This way you can still keep your stylish coffee table in your interior and it is also safe for your child at home.
