Continuing our family road trip through New Brunswick, Canada, after arriving in Miramichi, we were thrilled by an extraordinary wildlife encounter.

Just outside Miramichi in Acadieville, we met Richard and Vivianne—affectionately known as Papa and Mama Bear—from Little Bear Safari, on the forest's edge.

This experience left an indelible mark. Richard guides visitors deep into the wild to feed black bears at dusk. From a elevated wooden observation cabin, we watched safely. Participants sign waivers en route in the mini-bus. The 2-hour tour welcomes children 5+, emphasizing silence—whisper only to avoid startling family groups of bears.
Pressing on through New Brunswick's stunning landscapes, Canada's natural beauty continually surprises with its diverse flora and fauna. Next: Kouchibouguac National Park.
This gem offers family-friendly activities like cycling, hiking, fishing, and beach time. Plan at least 2 nights—oTENTiks (spartan yet charming canvas tents) are available inside the park, but book early as spots fill fast.

Kouchibouguac features bogs, salt marshes, estuaries, lagoons, old fields, and ancient forests. Its 25 km of shifting sand dunes shelter the endangered piping plover.
We joined an early-morning zodiac tour from Cap St. Louis to spot gray seal colonies on protected sands.
Southward along the coast to Bouctouche and its iconic Irving Eco-Centre La Dune—one of North America's last unbroken sand barriers. Walk the boardwalk and swim.
Nearby, Pays de la Sagouine on Île aux Puces recreates Acadian village life (panoramic shot included, though not my top pick).
Overnight option: Shediac Hotel in Shediac.
Grand finale: Bay of Fundy. Allow several days—ideally 3+—for Fundy National Park's world-record 12m tides (kayak at high, explore at low), trails, waterfalls, and Acadian forest camping. Don't miss Fundy Trail Parkway.
First stop: Cap Enragé, a trip highlight. Jaw-dropping roadside views lead to cliffs, a beach (via stairs or rappel), and a cozy restaurant.

En route to Hopewell Rocks, pull over often for epic scenery.
At the park, start at the orientation center, head back for the 20-minute trail to Demoiselles Beach—a serene sandy cove. Wear hiking shoes.
Loop left to join the main rock path, then stairs with boot-cleaning stations.
Stay in Fundy: Fundy Highlands wooden chalets—cozy with kitchenettes and rustic charm. Skip motels; go cabin!
Dine nearby: Tides Restaurant in Alma.
Drinks: Holy Whale Brewery (ex-church, closes 11pm).
Breakfast: Octopus’ Garden Café.
End in charming St. Andrews: Splurge at Hotel-Resort Algonquin and Rossmount Inn's gourmet dining.
Whale-watching tour: No whales for us, but stunning views and fun orange gear!
Visit Kingsbrae Garden: Kid-friendly cabins, adorable alpacas.
