Transforming My Teenager's Bedroom: A Real Parent's Journey Through Renovation

As a mom navigating the shift from little girl to teenager, both my daughter and her bedroom are very much 'under construction.' Life goes on—I'm still processing it all. Just before lockdown, her new double bed arrived, kicking off the room transformation I'd been delaying. Once that was in place, momentum built: next came the wardrobe, desk, paint, curtains, and decor. The list (and budget) is endless!

Many of you have asked for updates on this transition. Turning a child's room into a teen space is challenging when tastes are evolving—hers centered on a double bed, but little else. The goal? Create a space she loves, not one reflecting my style. With zero decor expertise (my walls are bare proof), Pinterest became my lifeline. I created a 'Teen Girl's Room' board, shared ideas, refined based on her feedback, and decoded the platform along the way. She gravitates toward clean whites, simple lines, gold accents, and a shoe cabinet (ordered pre-lockdown, still awaiting delivery).

For the bed, full honesty: I don't recommend it. Switching from the durable, easy-to-assemble Flexa (now listed for resale), this one disappointed. Delivery: dozens of thin boards, mismatched screws, vague instructions. Assembly took hours—even without drawers—requiring an electric screwdriver (shoutout to friends for the loan). Lockdown paused us, but I powered through. The wood quality is poor for the price; an IKEA podium would have been better.

Next: bedding. No 140cm bed meant starting from scratch. I ordered a duvet, organic cotton linen set from Kadolis (wrong color arrived, but the gray won me over), plus essentials like a fleece mattress protector, pillow protectors, and percale fitted sheets from Compagnie du Blanc. Their vast selection impressed—links below. Pillow pending; her brother supplies his when crashing there. Sibling sweetness!

On May 4th, custom curtains arrive from Laurence at Carpiem (who wowed us with living room drapes years ago). She picked semi-sheer linen in blind style for mood-based light control.

Upcoming: oversized desk (hers is embarrassingly tiny), wardrobe, full-length mirror, coat racks, frames. We've printed her fave photos via Lalalab in Vintage Print format (use my godmother code for €5 off: PGV937NZ).

Progress is slow, but that's okay—researching and brainstorming with my teen has been a silver lining. Another #containmentpositive moment.
