Primary School Bullying: A Heartbreaking Story

Every parent hopes their child will escape the scourge of bullying in primary school. Sadly, my daughter did not. As one of the younger moms at school, with my distinctive style—black clothes and vibrant rainbow hair—I stand out. Some parents even forbid their kids from playing with mine because I don't fit the "typical" mold. But I'm unbothered. From early on, I've taught my daughter to embrace her uniqueness and love herself without conforming to others' expectations.

Standing Out from the Crowd

In second grade, an incident prompted a crucial conversation. My daughter was left out of the school newspaper for late craft submission—she'd hidden it in a planter because she dislikes arts and crafts. More concerning, the teacher claimed she struggled with reading, despite her devouring books at home. During our talk, she confessed, "If I act dumber, other kids will play with me." This was my cue to reinforce that she's perfect as she is. Kids who exclude her are missing out. While challenging, this lesson stuck, and she found true friends.

Assaulted in Front of the Teacher

Third grade started strong academically, but at age 7, she suffered a brutal beating in front of her teacher: two broken baby teeth extracted, two damaged adult teeth repaired, a bruised jaw, three bruised ribs, and a dislocated knee.

I was initially told she'd "fallen" and needed the dentist. Three days later, she revealed the truth, leaving me devastated. Furious, I confronted the school and the bully's parents, who responded responsibly. The school, however, denied responsibility. Traumatized but resilient, she underwent Rock and Water training, which helped her cope with ongoing taunts.

A Toxic School Environment and Teacher

Desperate to end the bullying, I sought a new school. But the old one shared misleading info, scaring off alternatives. Trapped, I enlisted the municipal compulsory education officer for mediation, restoring some hope.

The Teacher Joins in the Bullying

In sixth grade, the bullying escalated: her teacher mocked her publicly, tore up her work, isolated her during recess, denied bathroom breaks, and more. My daughter refused school, questioning her existence. After confronting the principal, I secured psychological support—contacts reached the Secretary of State's assistant.

Finally Changing Schools

I reapproached the rejecting school, emphasizing their obligations. A fresh meeting with the principal, ignoring old reports, led to acceptance. Now in her new school for two years, EMDR therapy and supportive teachers have helped her thrive. She distinguishes teasing from bullying and handles it well.

From Trauma to Confidence

Despite everything, she's confident, resists peer pressure, excels academically, stays true to herself, and defends other bullied kids. I'm immensely proud. Reliving this brings tears—bullying's impact, especially from teachers, is devastating for young children and parents alike. I recognized the signs early, sought help for us both, and learned to ease my overprotectiveness.
