What a relief, finally no more grumbling at the kids

I really don't understand why I had to wait so long for this. I think it's a case of laziness. But with the blush on my cheeks, I have to admit something far worse. The funny thing is that this case of laziness has also caused me to sometimes try to circumvent my daughter's creativity. And all because of the lack of a plastic tablecloth, or rather the lack of a tablecloth at all.

Finally tinkering and messing around with a plastic tablecloth

We no longer have a playroom for the children, which I 'grabbed' years ago to make office space. That means that my sweet kids just play in the living room. Nothing wrong with that. Except when coloring, painting, gluing or tinkering. Or when slime is made. Those are pretty much the moments when the dining room table is completely occupied by all kinds of filth. With the most beautiful creations as a result, that is.

But no matter how old your kids are, this kind of creativity is just not recommended without a plastic tablecloth to catch all the adhesive and color residue. It is simply impossible to tinker neatly, at least here at home. And I get it, because how nice it is to mix everything up, leave it open on the table, put down paint brushes and so on. It just makes you even more creative! I personally think of “a dollop of pink here… a dollop of pink there…”. Do you remember them? That crazy aunt from the Knots family?

Take precautions

So even though I have taken the necessary precautions in the past in the form of egg cartons for the paint and paint brushes, trays for paper and glue residue and the like… it was just about time for a plastic tablecloth.

Not a thin plastic tablecloth, but a sturdy case

I was therefore very happy when I could choose a transparent oilcloth that would be made to measure. An ideal tablecloth made of thick plastic, which is exactly what we needed in our household. And it is therefore widely used. In fact… it's always on the table these days 😉 . Also a case of laziness I think, because I think it's fine that way. I don't have to think about pulling it out in time to roll out on the table, but I can just leave it alone. No more paint, marker or glue on my table. It also turned out to be ideal with making the ice cream surprises!

And no food leftovers in the cracks of our wooden dining table. Hallelujah.

Advantage of a thick plastic tablecloth

I think the plastic tablecloth is very practical, especially because it is a bit thicker. You can have it cut completely to size, so that it fits exactly over your dining table. And especially the thickness (I have 3 mm) ensures that I really let my daughter tinker with confidence without me having to be there. Precisely because this tablecloth does not move. If it is, then it is very firm. No more chance to 'roll up' what a thinner tablecloth can sometimes do so that a plastic cup with orange juice falls over or something like that.

Another nice additional advantage is that you can put things under it for a bit of atmosphere. We have now created a little Christmas atmosphere with hearts and golden circles. Looks cozy don't you think? Do you use a plastic tablecloth on your table as protection? Or do you use something else, and if so, what?
