Love at first sight captivates many, with couples like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claiming they knew instantly. But is it real? Research from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands reveals it's not love—it's intense physical attraction.
Researchers conducted two experiments: one with photos and another during speed-dating events. Participants rated their attraction levels and reported feelings like 'love at first sight.' Many did—especially men—but it was never mutual in speed dating. The study concludes that 'love at first sight' is simply a label for immediate attraction, used to rationalize it later.
Interestingly, believing in this concept boosts passion in relationships. Among coupled participants, those who experienced an initial crush with their partner reported the strongest ongoing passion.
And you, do you believe in love at first sight?
