It's October, yet I'm sharing our memorable April ski trip—perfect timing as we plan for Christmas. Our family has a passion for snow, mountains, mulled wine, and petanque. We prioritize an annual ski getaway, investing the budget it deserves. Our children are skilled skiers, nearly outpacing me. Méribel is a gem, especially Mottaret, the highest area with nearby shops for easy picnic lunches. The village offers a pool, ice rink (quality skates included), bowling, and arcade—all accessible via free shuttles (about 15 minutes).
We joined two sledding evenings, renting sleds for non-stop laughter—the best in years. One thrilling (if heart-pounding) ride with my husband; the next, the kids went solo while we relaxed with beers at the base.
For this getaway, I highly recommend Hotel Le Mottaret in Méribel. Ski-in/ski-out location, newly renovated large rooms (request these), cozy bar, lounge with fireplace for family games, and kid-friendly vibes. Minor drawbacks: mattresses could be better, and the ski room lacks lockers (renovations ongoing). Bonus: outdoor jacuzzi and on-site equipment rental.
