In mid-December, days are short, sunlight scarce, and winter's chill deepens. Feeling down? Not us! We escaped for a restorative family break in Picardy between Christmas and New Year.

As parents of a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old, after a hectic year, we craved a peaceful reset. Living in Seine-et-Marne, we sought a car-accessible spot under 2 hours away with restful accommodations and an indoor heated pool for the family. That's how we chose Domaine du Val near the Baie de Somme in Picardy for three nights.
This eco-responsible holiday village features 20 comfortable stilt houses, thoughtfully equipped and decorated for a cozy 3-star stay. A scented candle adds the perfect touch of luxury.
Here are photos of our house:

The concept is straightforward yet profound. Domaine du Val proudly holds the LUCIE label, committing to:
Expect a warm, professional welcome. The receptionist is friendly, helpful, and ready with answers. The owner is equally gracious—you might spot his dog Gus patrolling the grounds!

The heated indoor pool (28°C) is the star attraction—a delightful family splash spot. Minor drawbacks: limited changing cabins (just 2) and a drafty hallway. A sauna and kid-friendly floats would elevate it further.

We enjoyed a captivating story-reading session for kids—three books brought alive by a skilled storyteller. Free book and board game loans are a thoughtful perk!

A kids' craft table with drawing supplies kept little ones busy, giving parents a moment to relax on nearby sofas or floor cushions.
One evening, a food truck served waffles, tasty ginger-pumpkin soup, skewers, and experimental tempuras (skip those).

This stunning bay offers endless exploration, though poor weather kept us focused on recharging at the domaine.
