Behind the Scenes: A Parisian Family's Back-to-School Reality in 2020

Hey, it's been weeks since I last posted on my blog. This morning, over coffee, I felt the urge to drop in and unwind—sharing thoughts on everything and nothing. Real life, that is. What does the start of the 2020 school year look like in a privileged Parisian family like ours? (Is this title catchy enough for prime-time TV?)

Jingles aside.

Coffee ritual updated. Still using our eco-friendly French-made Malongo Ek'Oh machine with pods, but we've added a piston brewer. Now, every morning, I savor two quiet cups while scrolling social media (official excuse: prep work; reality: classic community manager habit).

The building turned on the heating end of September—feels early, but cooler nights mean better sleep for me.

Chatted with my parents in the South, a red zone, but no constant masks yet. They're well. Tempted to visit over holidays, but this virus... Test first? Paris wait times are 7 days—plenty of time to catch it en route. Precautionary skip? They crave a visit—no kisses, strict gestures, like our summer trip. Repeat or not?

Tough times. Hard to grasp since March: lockdowns, scrapped plans, protecting elders, masked friends, disrupted teen lives. What a return! At 15½, our daughter starts high school in a new place—strangers behind masks. Complicated, understandably. Our kids (this COVID generation) are resilient: they adapt, comply, push on. But I can't help comparing, feeling the unfairness (for a greater good, rationally—yet questions linger).

Meanwhile, endless chatter on trivial issues. Ignore the useless, toxic noise—let it fizzle. Beyond me: skirt lengths, T-shirts debated while ecology, women's rights (mutilation, violence) sidelined. Post-3-month homeschooling, unconstitutionally axing IEF (home education). Meddling in non-issues: others' lives, gay couples loving kids. Focus on your own—end rant. Turning 45 (Dec 6th, mark it). No more energy drains.

Started August with Ludivine—exceptional coach, recommend via Zoom—exploring my Ikigai.

Ikigai (生き甲斐), Japan's 'raison d'être' and joy of living.

Shared on Instagram (follow me—more active there). This introspection builds on months of recentering. Results? Transformative. Feeling grounded, accepting low moments—they pass quickly, no lasting damage, fitting my hectic life.

Work? Fully remote now. Time savings huge; no all-day mask (#privileged).

Vacation vibes early. First break crushed 6-0, Djokovic-style! 13-year-old off Monday for class trip—no cancellation yet, grateful. Rainy Basque Country beats Paris drizzle. Nearly-16-year-old aced 3-4 subjects—major win, relief (fingers crossed). Second year milestone, like tough 6th. She's adding English double degree. Laughed over first assignment—even translated, baffling. Shared giggles: priceless.

Hoping you're all well. Prioritizing here: nutrition (ditched 80% sugar), exercise, reflection. Beauty? Vegetable oils—skin savior, budget-friendly.

Am I a full bobo now? Nah, no meditation (yet).

September weekend memory in Honfleur with cherished family fighting cancer—sea strength recharge.
