Do Vacation Romances Last? Real Stories from Five Women

Summer has a way of making us glow—we're well-rested, sun-kissed, energized by the heat, and romantic encounters happen effortlessly.

But do these vacation sparks turn into enduring love stories, or fade with the tan? Five women candidly share their experiences:

Léna, 19, Biarritz

I'm adamant: they won't last. The charm lies in the summer intensity—a brief, passionate escape. Daily life takes over afterward.

Joane, 23, Reims

Mine started on vacation in southern France. One evening, he approached, we chatted, and he kissed me (laughs). We spent the night together; the next day, he called wanting more. I visited, the chemistry clicked, and we enjoyed the rest of the holidays laughing nonstop. We stayed in touch as friends. The following summer, we reunited down south, and it turned serious. Distance was tough—he was in the south, I was in Reims—but we managed holiday meetups. It lasted a year until he moved to Lille for my studies. Six years later, we're still blissfully together.

Anna, 23, Lille

This summer, I vacationed with a friend in Spain. Paco, a hotel worker, caught my eye immediately. He stared too—I love that game! Usually bold, I played it cool, smiling and joking at reception. The day before leaving, we met in the lobby. Bored, I joined his game of UNO, loser pays a forfeit... I lost. He wanted a kiss, which I happily gave. We stayed out until 4 a.m. He waved goodbye under my window. I didn't take his number—it felt like perfect holiday magic. Can they last? I'm not sure, but I believe in fate and true love.

Anne-Gaëlle, 30, Lille

I don't buy it, especially with distance involved. Mine never outlasted the vacation. To me, holidays mean sea, sex, and sun!

Sarah, 25, Lille

I'm living it now and wondering. I met a handsome Austrian in Spain. Communication was tricky with my English, but we danced all night. He gave me his number; I messaged the next day, only to learn it was his last. Determined, I saw him that evening—it was magical. He flew back to Austria, but we're still texting despite the challenges. I can't stop thinking about him; time will tell.
