Survey Reveals: Most People Say 'I Love You' Within the First 3 Months of Dating

We've all pondered it at the start of a new relationship: When is the right time to say "I love you" for the first time? A Google search returns over 1.3 million results, underscoring how universal this question is. With no exact science to declaring your feelings, the reputable British polling institute YouGov surveyed 3,947 people on when they first uttered those words to their partner. While 27% responded "I don't know," 22% said it happened within the first three months.

Timing Varies Widely

Responses showed significant diversity: 14% within the first six months, 13% in the first month, 6% in the first year, 2% in the first two years (patience indeed!), and 3% in the first week (more common among men than women). Meanwhile, 3% never said it—due to lack of time or the right moment—and 7% never felt it at all. The key takeaway? There's no universal rule for expressing love. Say it when you genuinely feel it, not to manipulate or retain a partner.
