On Sunday evenings, many singles grapple with feelings of loneliness, turning to dating sites in hopes of a meaningful match that could spark a great romance. Research from Meetic, a leading dating platform, highlights the first Sunday in January as particularly promising, dubbing it 'Love Sunday.' For 2021, that date was January 3—the ideal time for virtual romantic connections.
Meetic's 2019 analysis showed registrations on this day were double the average, up 18% from 2018. The peak hit between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., making it prime time for new profiles.
The study also noted a 62% increase in messages exchanged compared to a typical day—and 59% more than Valentine's Day—fueled by New Year's resolutions. This aligns with findings from Imperial College Business School (UK), projecting 40% of babies born to online-met couples by 2030, rising to over half by 2037. For context, in 1970s Britain, one in five couples met in pubs; today, it's one in 14.
