Here's another compelling reason to embrace post-intimacy cuddling. A study from researchers at the University of Toronto, published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, shows that extending tender moments through cuddling and affectionate talk helps sustain passion and desire in relationships.
Researchers reached this conclusion—intuitive yet vital—by first surveying 335 individuals online, then tracking 101 couples over 21 days. Key finding: Couples who lingered in affectionate physical contact, like caressing, hugging, and kissing for at least 15 minutes, reported higher satisfaction with both their emotional and sexual lives.
This effect is especially strong among parents, who often struggle with limited time for romance. "It is possible that this additional bonding after sex is more important for couples who face difficulties in having intimate moments," the researchers explain.
With demands from work, household chores, and childcare, carving out time can be challenging. That's why extending intimacy by just 15 minutes—through hugs, kisses, or tender conversation—can foster deeper connection, sweetness, and calm. "Hug your partner, kiss, or talk tenderly," recommends study co-author Amy Muise, PhD, from the University of Toronto.
Love cuddles? Make the most of them—your relationship will thank you.
