Following jeweler Mathieu Tournaire's 'Tree of Lovers,' a fresh digital tribute has emerged to honor the Pont des Arts—Paris's iconic symbol of romance—after its love padlocks were removed last June.
Launched on August 9, 2015—St. Amour's Day—the www.chaine-amour.fr platform, created by digital communication expert Philippe Huguet, lets couples worldwide declare their love virtually. Simply enter your first names and country, name the city that symbolizes your bond, select a color for your virtual padlock, and add an optional photo. For just €5, with 10% donated to your choice of charities—'Project Rescue Ocean,' 'Association du syndrome de Lowe,' or 'Quelle hospitalité pour la folie?'—your message joins the chain.
"Virtual ribbons linked by padlocks form an international Chain of Love, symbolically originating from Paris's Pont des Arts," the site explains. Each August 9, the Chain proclaims the 'City of Love' based on declarations per capita. Today, it spans 270 meters.
